Large Scale Maps:
When discussing maps, large scale does not mean it shows a larger area. Large scale maps generally show less area, but show that area with higher detail than a map referred too as small scale. This may seem counter- intuitive to many students. The scale for a large scale geologic map is usually 1:24,000 or larger (1:12,000; 1:6000).
