If the student's summary of the source material contains an error, choose the option that describes the error. If the summary is acceptable, choose "The summary is acceptable." ORIGINAL SOURCE FOMO, or "fear of missing out," is a very real fear for many first-year students. FOMO is also the reason you see first-year college students traveling in packs of five to ten people, especially to meals. First-year students often express anxiety about being seen by themselves on campus. They are afraid that it will look like they don't have friends. There is even a recognition among first-year students that they would rather be with a group of people they don't particularly like than to be seen alone. —Andrea Malkin Brenner and Lara Hope Schwartz, How to College: What to Know Before You Go (And When You're There) 2019, p. 45.

SUMMARY
In chapter 3, Brenner and Schwartz (2019) explained how "fear of missing out," or FOMO, is a major determinant of social behavior for first-year college students, to the point that some first-year students admit they'd rather be with " a group of people they don't particularly like" than be alone (p.45). This can cause students to have misplaced priorities and place too much focus on social situations rather than their studies.
