Young Soon, a Korean-American woman in her mid-30s, is the youngest of seven children and the only single person in the family. She has come to your agency for advice on how to handle some cultural issues that might be causing her anxiety and depression. Though she has a very successful career in the tech industry, she had never considered moving out of the parental home. She feels a strong obligation to be available for her widowed mother and believes it is her duty to be there for her mother, even though she has older siblings. All of her siblings are married or are in committed relationships. Not bothered by being single, Young Soon does desire to have a more fulfilling social life. Additionally, she wants more privacy when at home to spend quality time alone, but she also yearns to have friends over. Being a single woman and still achieving independence while living at home is uncommon in her culture and there is no one she knows who has chosen this path in single adulthood. Young Soon suspects some people may feel there is something lacking or wrong with single adults when they experience needs and feelings that have little?
