Activity
In this activity, you’ll create a table to plan your writing, compose your response with proper in-text citations, and create a Works Cited page. You can use authoritative print or digital sources you find on your own in addition to or instead of the sources we covered in this unit.
As you select sources for your assignment, choose the evidence you will cite from these sources, and write your response, be sure to consider the audience you’re writing for, the task at hand, and the purpose of your composition. Considering who will be reading your work, the assignment you’ve been given, and the argument you want to make about pursuing greatness will help you stay focused as you research and write your response.
Part A
Gather textual evidence that will help you answer this question: What qualities does someone need to pursue greatness or success? In the table below, include the claim about which quality or qualities are needed, textual evidence from at least three authoritative sources, and the information for each source. The first row contains an example.
Part B
Now, use the evidence and sources you compiled in part A to write a response to this question: What qualities does someone need to pursue greatness or success? Use evidence from at least three sources with proper in-text citations. Remember to include commentary and reasoning to support your evidence. Refer to our guide on Using MLA Style to Cite Your Sources to make sure you properly format your citations.
Part C
Create a Works Cited page that includes all the sources you used in your response to part B.
