Political party politics are more clearly delineated by race and identity. More than one-third of supporters from both parties believe that violence can be used to achieve political goals. When a one party election fails, voters who support the party feel as if their America is being occupied by foreign forces. Political scientist Barbara Walter said that the United States has become a "factional, non dominated system" between authoritarianism and democracy.
