Passage 2
Summer Fireworks
BOOM! A sudden sunflower!
WHIRR! shoot marigolds!
CRASH! Orange day lilies burst
surprising, brilliant, bold.
Pop pop pop The front yard's full
of poppies and carnations.
Violets and forget-me-nots
crackle celebration.
ZOOM! The zinnias soar:
the sizzling sparklers of July.
Daffodils and foxgloves FLARE!
Roses and daisies fly!
Buttercups and hyacinths,
a surging of sweet peas!
Then-hush-the garden's silent-
but for the buzz of honeybees.
