How are competitive games
different from cooperative
games?
Cooperation Is a
Winning Strategy
by Jacqueline Adams
After school, you and your friends scramble to stop an
island from sinking into the murky depths of the ocean.
Can you save the island in time? That may sound stressful,
but you're actually having fun. That's because you're
playing a popular cooperative board game.
Unlike competitive games, which set players against each
other until only one wins, cooperative games unite players
against a common enemy-the game itself. As they
engage in tasks like strategically shifting a maze in order
to collect treasures, everyone works as a team, winning or
losing together.
In competitive games, players use
strategy, while in cooperative games,
they depend on luck.
In competitive games, players collect
treasure, while in cooperative games,
they fight enemies.
In competitive games, players unite to
achieve a goal, while in cooperative
games, they each have their own goal.
In competitive games, players play
against others, while in cooperative
games, players work together.
