This is a cross-section of a seminiferous tubule at a magnification where one can observe details. Observe the dark pinkish red material that is on the inner aspect of this tubule bordering the clear unstained area in the center of the tubule. This material is excess cytoplasm of spermatids that will eventually be phagocytosed by Sertoli cells. There are a few spermatozoa present. The dark small round nuclei that are very numerous are nuclei of spermatids. Several large nuclei are in prophase of mitosis. These are primary spermatocytes. Sertoli cells are very difficult to see. They are the cells with large oval nuclei whose chromatin is distended (euchromatic nuclei).
