Why does Homer use a third-person omniscient narrator in Books
III and IV of The Odyssey?
to keep the reader from feeling anxious about the
characters by revealing what will happen to all of them early
in the book
to heighten the suspense in the story by revealing
information such as the suitors' plan to kill Telemachus
to help the reader see that all of the characters are "good
guys" and that no one in the story is a true antagonist
to improve the pacing of the story by spending time
exploring each character in detail
