Passage 1

Nap Time

In today's day and age, everything and everyone is moving at an incredibly fast pace. It is not uncommon to hear that most people can barely manage to pack in five to six hours of sleep a night. Sleep is essential for the mind and body. Acute sleep deprivation can lead to a range of health disorders including hypertension, constant fatigue, and obesity. To help the body get some much-needed rest, taking a short nap in the afternoon is a good idea. A nap is a short rest taken during the day and can be anywhere between 15 and 90 minutes long. Many health studies reveal that napping has been instrumental in lowering stress levels. Research has shown that people who take naps have a lower incidence of cardiovascular diseases and inflammation. Their ability to work efficiently with improved productivity increases. Studies have shown that after a nap, people feel rested and hence are in a better mood. Naps are a simple way to improve one's physical and mental health.

Passage 2

Nature's Clock

Everything in nature follows a set rhythm. Days change into nights; seasons change. Everything blooms in spring and sheds in autumn. Even the human body has a natural or biological clock. This clock is in perfect sync with nature's clock. Out of the 24 hours in a day, we have daylight for 12 hours, on average. This cycle of day and night occurs for a reason. We work during the day and sleep during the night. However, some people have a habit of taking a nap during the day. They are so addicted to their afternoon nap that they feel tired and listless without it. Some people also experience grogginess post-nap. This affects their attentiveness and their productivity. Further, some people who suffer from insomnia or sleeplessness nap during the day. They then find it even more difficult to sleep at night and find themselves tossing and turning in bed. As a result, they feel sleepy and tired the next day. Studies have proved that people who experience lethargy and boredom should avoid taking naps, as it only worsens their condition. Therefore, we should align ourselves with nature's clock—to work during the day and to sleep at night.
