Going pro is a dream for many student athletes starting at a very early age, but the statistics show that only a very small proportion of athletes play in college, let alone in a professional arena. Football statistics form 2016 show that of the 73,660 college football athletes (all divisions) only 22% are eligible for the draft (and there aren't spots for all of these players on NFL teams). Looking at other sports, the men's basketball statistics for the 2023 season shows that of the 19,213 participants, 4,270 will be eligible for the draft. Does this data show that the proportion of players eligible for the draft is different for basketball players than football players at the .05 level?
