To understand the benefit, look at how you remember
things. While you're awake, information enters your
hippocampus. This part of the brain creates neural, or
nerve, connections to form short-term memories. As you
sleep, your brain transfers some of those memories to your
prefrontal cortex, the part of your brain where long-term
memories are stored.
