Tissue Types
There are four main types of tissue in the human body: epithelial tissue, muscle tissue, nervous tissue, and connective tissue. Research these tissues online and create a table about them. Your table should include the following information:
Name of tissue (muscle, connective, etc.)
Description of the tissue’s basic structure
Examples of where the tissue is found in the body
The tissue’s function in the body
A microscopic image of the tissue (this can be a photo, a diagram from the internet, or your own diagram showing what the tissue looks like on a microscopic (cellular) level - if you include an image from the internet, cite your source).
A sample of human tissue has just been delivered to your evidence room. Under the microscope, it looks like this:
What type of tissue is this? Explain. (1-2 sentences)
Part 2: Microscopes: A Closer Look
Crime labs use several different types of microscopes to analyze evidence. Four microscopes commonly found in crime labs are the stereomicroscope, the compound microscope, the comparison microscope, and the scanning electron microscope.
Research each of these microscopes online. Describe the structure and basic uses of each microscope. How is it similar to or different from the others? (1-2 sentences each)
You just received evidence from the crime scene. Which type of microscope would you use for each task, and why? (1 sentence each)
Identifying fine particles of gunshot residue
Side-by-side analysis of two hair samples
Determining whether a tissue type is human, plant, or animal
Sorting fragments of glass from a cupful of soil
