I suggest implementing a dual operating system in the military to foster progressiveness. This would involve an innovative team testing out pilot programs for a couple of years to determine their impact on soldiers' overall well-being. Although we have made changes to our uniform and physical fitness regulations, there is still a need for a change in leadership growth. Instead of being trained only once before promotion to the next rank after specialist, I believe that training should occur at least once annually once they become non-commissioned officers. I have observed that soldiers return from training motivated, but that energy fades over time, and they fall back into old habits. I learned in my corporate entrepreneurship and sustainability course about the importance of maintaining a balance between innovation and predictability. Currently, the Army appears to believe that this balance is achieved by making changes every decade. However, it would be better to make continual efforts to seek the best options, as this would enable us to stay ahead in many areas, leading to better retention and recruitment.
