Passage 1
Passage 2
We Need More, Not Less,
Recess
Have you heard of the recent trend that
has been sweeping schools, threatening
the growth of our children? You might be
surprised to hear that students are being
robbed of recess. At first glance, this
might seem like a minor problem. After
all, students are sent to school to learn
how to read and write, not how to play
kickball, right? But this sort of attitude
reveals how school administrations
completely underestimate the benefits of
free time.
Why does the author use the word "robb
in the first paragraph of Passage 1?
to highlight the harmful intent of school
administrators
to suggest that students are being treated
unfairly
to recall petty crimes that may occur at
school
to introdue the idea that the courts need to
get involved
