Description of the task This task requires you to produce detailed scale drawings and cross sections of steel windows. Your drawings should comply with the minimum requirements as stipulated in the SANS 10 400 and SANS 10 143 Code of Practice for building drawings. The task is based on the scenario below. Scenario: As assistant to the architect, you are involved in guiding Mrs Mabena on her choice of windows. You receive a message from the contractor on site requesting guidance in connection with the steel window schedules/catalogues. The contractor wants his workers to know exactly how and which windows to fit throughout the building structure. The assessment evidence consists of window catalogue(s) and three sets of drawings. Instructions for the task Subtask 1: Obtain information (Total: 10 marks) In preparation for subtask 2 and 3 you must, in your own time: • Obtain steel window schedules/catalogues with six or more window types. • List FOUR different types of window materials. Attach the list and schedules to the A3 drawing from subtask 2 for marking. Subtask 2: Draw a detailed scale view of a steel window frame (Total: 10 marks: 60 minutes) You must, under supervision: • Choose one steel window from the windowschedule/catalogue. Use an appropriate scale (as determined by the lecturer) to draw a detailed scale view of the steel window on A3 drawing paper. • Provide the drawing with dimension labels, notes and a scale.​
