Researchers wondered whether the number of internet connected
devices per household is the same in the Northeast United States as in
the Southeast United States. To investigate, they contacted a random
sample of households in each region and asked the question "How
many internet connected devices are in your home?" The results are
displayed in the boxplots below.
Northeast
Southeast
Number of Connected Devices
a. Compare the distributions for the two regions.
b. For which distribution is the mean closer to the median? Explain
your choice.
c. Assuming all conditions for inference are satisfied, what type of
test would researchers use to determine if there is statistical
evidence of a difference in the average number of internet
connected devices found in households in these two regions?
