Henry is a Ph.D. student in a prestigious lab at a famous research university. He has been working diligently to collect data for his doctoral research project, which investigates changes in inflammatory markers following a surgically-induced pain model. In so doing, he is also working on his first manuscript to publish the results of his study. Henry is eager and excited to show his advisor, Dr. Cole, the first draft of his manuscript. Dr. Cole has just come into the lab to ask if all the experiments are working out and if anyone in the lab has been having any issues. Henry approaches Dr. Cole and tells her that he is about to send her the first draft of his manuscript. Dr. Cole replies that she is extremely pleased with his work and she is enthusiastic about adding a doctoral student from her lab as a collaborator on a manuscript from her lab. After she leaves, Henry is very upset about only being listed as a potential collaborator on the manuscript. He is struggling to decide if he should talk to Dr. Cole about his concerns and the ethics of her decision or keep his concerns for himself.
