The labels or traits we identify ourselves with often play a role in how we act and what we care about. For example, if you see yourself as "smart," you may hold yourself to higher expectations for the grades you receive. If you see yourself as being a good athlete, you may take your performance in sports more seriously and try harder. In other words, we tend to act in line with how we see ourselves. It is important that the way you see yourself comes from a positive place within you and is not just a reflection of the opinions of others. For this Call to Action assignment, make two lists in the box. Under List 1, write down as many traits as possible that you think others would use to describe you. Under List 2, write down as many traits as possible that you'd use to describe yourself. Then, answer the following reflection questions: How do your two lists compare? If they are different, why do you think there is a contrast? Are there any traits in List 1 that you don't like or think is untrue? Do you think your behavior reinforces those traits or counteracts them? Do you think you see yourself based on the traits in List 1 or 2? Which traits, on either list, do you feel dictates your attitude and behavior the most?
