A New Award

A plan to increase the number of awards for achievement has provoked many responses from parents, teachers, and students. In fact, it is safe to say that this issue seems to be an important one for many people, as it should be. Currently, students can earn an award by excelling in one of many academic subjects. Mathematics, however, is one of the few subjects in which students are not able to receive an award. Adding a math academic achievement award will benefit the students in our school.

Some people claim that offering too many awards will reduce their value. The value of an award does not come from how rare it is or how rarely it is given. The real value comes from the recognition it provides for those students who have excelled in their subjects. These awards express the importance placed on achievement.

Choose the sentence that gives the best evidence to improve support of the student's underlined claim.
A. Some people might claim that the more awards you give out, the more you decrease the value of the award itself.
B. Giving out achievement awards for math will show that our school values math just as much as it values the other academic subjects.
C. The students seem to appreciate our school's practice of giving out achievement awards for academic areas as well as for extracurricular activities.
D. Two years ago our school began to give out recognition awards for students in English, the result being that now students are earning better grades in their English classes than they did before the awards.
