In tumor cells, there are significantly lower levels of Protein X, a tumor suppressor. However, there are no differences in its DNA sequence when comparing healthy and tumor cells. In tumor cells, you identify a mutation in a DNA-binding protein. In healthy cells, you know that protein binds upstream of the gene for Protein X, but is not a transcription factor.
