The unit describes seven different “scenarios in practice” in which you are asked to imagine how you might respond to various disaster scenarios. Choose one of the following scenarios. Explain how you think federal and/or local agencies should respond. What would you do as an individual in the scenario?
Scenario list:
Industrial accident: A hazmat train has derailed and exploded, releasing a cloud of gas that heads to business and residential districts.
Pandemic flu: A flu outbreak has taken over much of the country.
Sudden, severe storm: A storm pops up during an outdoor festival at a local park.
Truck crash: An oil truck causes a pileup on the freeway and is leaking toward a local creek.
Mall explosion: A gas leak at a local shopping center has caused an explosion, leading to fires and injuries. There may be pockets of people trapped inside the burning building.
Hostage situation: A lone shooter has taken a news station hostage.
The big one: Three days after a major hurricane hit the Carolinas, an eight- to ten-foot tsunami is on the way.
