Types of Cells
Eukaryote vs. Prokaryote
Eukaryotes are more complex than prokaryotes. They have more
organelles with specialized functions, but they do not all have a cell
wall.
Prokaryotes always have a cell wall for protection. They do not
have a nucleus.
Eukaryotes and prokaryotes both follow the cell theory, have DNA
and organelles, such as the cell membrane. The cell membrane is a
selectively permeable membrane that lets select things in and out
of the cell.
The Cell Theory applies to all living things:
1. Every living thing is made of cells.
2. Cells come from existing cells.
3. Cells are the basic unit of structure and function in living things.
Why is the cell membrane so
important?
A. because it creates other cells
B. because it keeps the cell at a specific
temperature, helping to maintain
homeostasis
C. because it protects the cell from the
outside environment
