Rescue Operations Underway for Three People Missing in Gauteng Floods - An
Environmental Issue.
Several parts of Gauteng, including Mamelodi, Centurion and Midstream have flooded
after heavy downpours overnight. Emergency officials managed to rescue four people
stranded in a car floating down the flooded Old Pretoria Road.
Elsewhere, citizens and authorities are on high alert in several parts of Tshwane. In
Mamelodi, rescue operations in the Eerste Fabriek informal Settlement proved to be a
challenge - 60 homes were identified as being in imminent danger.
Some residents took measures to protect themselves after raging waters entered their
homes when the Pienaarsrivier burst its banks. Mabaso said some people behaved
irresponsibly putting themselves and other's lives at risk. Authorities were on standby
as community leaders engaged disgruntled residents.
