Yara stayed after her program in the morning. To begin the program, Yara always receives a small snack. After she finished eating, she was instructed to throw away any trash she had, like wrappers, used napkins, etc. Additionally, the staff prompted her to go wash her hands in the bathroom and reminded her not to turn the water too hot to prevent any burns. Following this, she was told to get ready to go on an outing to the park.
Activities: When we arrived at the park (Hackensack Reservoir Number Two on Palisades Avenue 21st street, Union City NJ), the staff assisted Yara by showing her around the park. For instance, whenever the staff found a nice spot to take pictures, the staff would mention it to her so that she could learn about the nice views (like the skyline, the water, animal life etc.). Additionally, the staff mentioned that walking around daily or every other day can help improve her health both physically by doing light exercise and mentally by giving her an easy hobby to relax. Finally, the staff mentioned that the main reason they came to the park was to practice some walking exercise in the open environment and build long lasting healthy hobbies (such as community awareness, physical exercise, and mental exercise). At the end of the outing, all the staff reminded her to come to the van and bring any water bottles or other items they brought on the trip.
