According to the ICN Code of Ethics (2021), values in nursing are those ends sought by both the profession and in nurse-patient relationships. These include:
a. The ability to evaluate one's own thoughts, plans and actions in relation to ethical responsibilities.
b. The right to have one's autonomous decisions respected.
c. Health, dignity, respect, compassion, equity, and inclusivity.
d. Valuing and respecting the characteristics, attributes, and preferences of the patient such as cultural and religious beliefs.
