Imagine you are the intake clinician assessing Scott for admission to the intensive Behavioral Health Outpatient Program (BHOP) at the local hospital. He was discharged from the inpatient unit at the same hospital last week. The precipitating event for Scott's involuntary admission to the inpatient unit was that he was found agitated, mumbling incoherently, disheveled, and half-dressed wandering the streets. Scott was in the inpatient unit for three weeks, becoming stabilized on Risperdal Consta. He has refused any additional medication at this time. His primary motivation for agreeing to take Risperdal was to discharge from the hospital though he also acknowledged it helped him feel "a little" better and think more clearly. Notes from the inpatient unit's staff indicate that Scott was paranoid and responding to internal stimuli (AH/VH) upon admission and until stabilized. The goal of your assessment is to gather information that may prove useful in helping the team determine/clarify Scott's diagnosis or diagnoses and what type and level of treatment is appropriate (i.e., how many days per week to attend the program and which therapy groups to assign him to; therapy groups are available for those with psychotic disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, substance use issues, and/or developmental disabilities). Limited information is known about Scott's background as he has been reluctant to disclose details about his history. He is unemployed and receives SSI benefits.
