Newton's Third Law of Motion states that whenever one object exerts force on another object, that second object exerts an equal and opposite force on the first. In other words, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. For example, when you jump off the ground, there is a downward push of your legs into the ground as well as the upward push of your body into the air.
Which of these is an example of Newton’s third law of motion?
A
A diver jumps off a diving board and the board pushes back with equal force, propelling the diver into the air.
B
A hockey puck slides across ice until it hits a wall.
C
A bowling ball and a basketball are pushed with equal force. The basketball accelerates faster than the bowling ball does.
D
An apple falls from a tree, hits the ground, and splits in half.
