Law enforcement is crucial for our society to thrive. We enact criminal laws to maintain order and punish those violating the democratically decided rules (Peak and Madensen, 2018). Those involved in law enforcement are responsible for enforcing these laws. Without law enforcement, laws would not be upheld, and society would eventually crumble. Law enforcement, in my opinion, is the front line of our justice system. These individuals are active in finding those who are not upholding the laws to the standard and allowing their peers to provide their punishment. In order for a case to proceed through the system, law enforcement has to establish that there has been a crime and identify the perpetrator (Peak and Madensen, 2018). Although most people have a problem with law enforcement, I disagree. I do believe our justice system needs a lot of work, including law enforcement. But I still believe they are necessary to make sure laws are being followed. Without law enforcement, most people wouldn't know who to call. Without law enforcement, those who break laws have nothing to be afraid of and will continue to do so. Explain how your colleague's position has changed your perception or understanding.
