As you likely know, a number of years ago because of several significant outbreaks of food poisoning caused by consumption of a variety of milk products produced from raw aka unpasteurized milk (either from the U.S. or imported), the U.S. government (FDA/USDA) imposed strict restrictions on sale of raw milk products at the interstate level; however, the FDA/USDA allowed for what happens at the state level to be determined by each state. For many years, many states restricted the sale of raw milk products; however, slowly but surely, these restrictions are being loosened still with certain constraints in place. See the article about the situation in Iowa where the law just changed (the URL link below), which does a reasonably good job showing pros/cons and what a responsible vendor of raw milk might do to protect the consumer Given the situation now occurring with bird flu, what are your thoughts/opinions about you consuming products made from raw milk? How about a family member who is either very young, very old or immunocompromised? Do you think the FDA/USDA should continue loosening up the restrictions or should they reverse course and tighten up the restrictions again?
