A pastime is an activity that someone does regularly for enjoyment. During World War II, movies, radio programs, and even sports were used to rally Americans around FDR's four freedoms and keep up the nation's spirits. Do you agree with FDR that American pastimes, such as baseball and other activities should go on uninterrupted during times of warfare or tragedy? What is more important: recognizing the sobriety (seriousness) of a particular situation, or providing relief from stress/fear?
When you have written a paragraph expressing your own ideas about the appropriateness of pastimes during times of warfare or tragedy, respond to the posts of at least two other students. In each response, indicate whether or not you agree with your class mate’s position, and provide reasons or examples to support your response.
