The Poison Prevention Packaging Act was enacted in the early
1970s. The law requires ingestable consumer products (including
prescription drugs) to have child-resistant packaging, in order to
prevent the risk of accidental poisoning of young children.
However, with prescription containers, a request can be made to
use non child-proof containers. What is needed to properly fulfill a
request to use non-child-proof prescription vials?
Prescribing Doctor's authorization
Patient's signature
Supervising Pharmacist signature
