A massless spring with a spring constant ₛ has one end fixed to a ceiling and the other end is hanging down to an equilibrium length of xₑᵩ. A block of mass m is then attached. The block initially drops down, then bounces back up a bit and oscillates for a little while. Gravity on the block is not negligible. What is the furthest distance that the block will drop to before bouncing back?
