The Temperature of Color
The six main colors on the color wheel can be divided into two categories: cool and warm. Three of the six colors are cool. First, there is green, which can suggest the coolness of the dew on the morning grass. Blue is a color appropriate for the sensation of cool refreshing water in a pool or lake. A third color to suggest a feeling of coolness is violet, such as the violet-colored iris or the long flowing royal purple-violet cloak of a king. In contrast to these colors are the other three, which are warm. The warmest of colors, yellow, reminds us of the warmth of the sun. Red, the color of fire, gives us a feeling of heat.
