Read the following paragraphs from Rizal’s letterLinks to an external site..

I asked myself whether bravery was a common thing in the young women of our people. There were only a few who seem to come up to my ideal. There was, an abundance of girls with agreeable manners, beautiful ways, and modest demeanor, but there was in all an admixture of servitude and submission to the words or whims of their so-called "spiritual fathers," and men of the community.

However, when the news of what happened at Malolos reached us, I saw my error, and great was my rejoicing.

In these paragraphs, what is Rizal’s tone when he uses the phrase ‘spiritual fathers’?
