For this exercise, download the Excel file “Table 3: State Tax Collections by State and Type of Tax 2021” obtained at the United States Census Bureau at https://www.census.gov/data/tables/2021/econ/qtax/historical.html. For this exercise, we extract data for sales and gross receipts taxes by state for the first quarter of 2021. We then convert the data to a U.S. map chart and analyze the results.

Required
1. Download the following Excel file: Table 3: State Tax Collections by State and Type of Tax 2021

2. Prepare a table by extracting from the U.S. Census Bureau file: General Sales and Gross Receipts Taxes by state for 2021 Q1. You will only be using the General Sales and Gross Receipts data in your analysis. Do not include Washington, D.C. in your table. Hint: Eliminate unnecessary data. Then use the Transpose function (You may want to unmerge cells before transposing the data. After the transposition, you can line up the amounts with the states.) Convert the data to a Table as the final step.

3. List the total of the amounts in your table. (Leave the amounts in thousands.)
