This essay has five components and should be a minimum of three-paragraphs (at least five-sentences each). Even though the requirements are listed separately, your response should be in essay format, but you may answer the questions in any order that you would like.

a. Evaluate how the transcontinental railroad helped open the West for settlement. Explain what effect the growth of railroads had on the nation's urbanization.

b. Explain how the growth of industry created a need for faster methods of communication. In particular, discuss how the telegraph helped meet this need

c. Explain why the mass production of goods and improvements in transportation lead to lower prices for consumers.

d. Give your opinion why the market for manufactured goods in the South was smaller than that in the North. Explain how this affected the development of industry in the South.

e. Explain how the invention of the steam locomotive and the clipper ship changed the way American goods were marketed internationally.
