Suppose that at 11:58 p.m. some intrepid (and worried) bacteria realize that they are about to run out of space in that bottle, so they lobby their leaders to finance a search for new bottles to inhabit. At the speed of light, these explorers travel far and wide. Finally, somewhere near Antarctica’s coastline, they find 3 new bottles the same size as their original home and immediately inform their government back home. Great sighs of relief come from one and all the bacteria!! This is 4 times the number of bottles they have ever known! Surely, expounds their President Bacterium, their troubles are over! They have solved forever the problem of running out of space... or have they? Are the politicians holding out false hope? How long do the bacteria really have until they run out of space in their 4 bottles?
