I chose Mexico
Here is what the lesson had:
Mexico
In 1810, Catholic priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla began the Mexican independence movement with a speech known as the Grito de Dolores, calling an end to colonial Spanish rule. Hidalgo’s troops included many native people and mestizos. Hidalgo’s army won control of many Mexican provinces. However, the Spanish captured and executed him in 1811.
José María Morelos y Pavón, another priest, took over the movement after the death of Hidalgo. He promised to redistribute land to the poor. The Spanish captured and killed José María. After his death, the rebel army continued to fight. This conflict became known as the Mexican War of Independence.
After winning independence from Spain in 1821, Mexico created a constitutional monarchy. Creoles gained equality with peninsulares. On May 19, 1822, Agustín de Iturbide became the emperor. He was an ineffective leader, and the Mexicans soon removed him from power.
In 1823, the nations that are now Nicaragua, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala created the United Provinces of Central America. This union lasted less than 20 years.
