Fast and thermal neutrons (and some of the average neutron speeds and "temperatures" may be surprising). Of the 205 MeV released, about 5 or 6 MeV go to the 2.4 neutrons. Consider a fast neutron with kinetic energy (KE) of 1 MeV, where KE = 1/2 mv², and where 1 eV = 1.602 × 10⁻¹⁹ J.
How fast is a fast neutron with 1 MeV of KE in m/s? Hint: You have the mass of the neutron from Short Problem Set 1, but make sure you convert it from g per mol to kg per neutron.
