Overview and Objectives
Your task is to be a city engineer and plan the layout for a new city. The city has a list of requirements to be included that will involve the topics you have learned about in this unit.
Objective: To determine the nature of the angles formed when parallel lines are divided by a transversal. To prove lines are parallel, perpendicular, or neither. To use information, like slope and a given point, to write an equation of a line.
Product to be Submitted
You will create a city plan either digitally or by hand. Download the document as a PDF (or take a picture of your hand-drawn city plan and save as an image). You will attach both this file and the legend to your submission.
Instructions
Below are the requirements that this city needs.
Your city must include:
A Title at the Top (Name of your town)
You must include the NUMBERS of each item identified on your map; there are 14 items on the list.
You must create a legend that relates to the numbers and names of the items in your city. On a separate page, create a legend that clearly identifies each number and the name of the building (example: “4. Gas Station 1”).
Items to be included in your legend and city plan:
1 & 2: Two streets (lines) that are parallel to each other.
3: A diagonal street (line) that is a transversal to the parallel streets.
4 & 5: Add two coffee shops that are located at congruent corresponding angles.
6 & 7: Draw two gas stations that are located at congruent alternate interior angles.
8 & 9: Add two grocery stores located at congruent alternate exterior angles.
10 & 11: Two streets (lines) that are perpendicular to each other.
12: Draw a roundabout (otherwise known as a traffic circle) at the midpoint of a line segment. Be sure to state what segment your roundabout is the midpoint of.
13: Draw a path or bridge that connects two complementary angles.
14 & 15: Draw two parks (colored green) at vertical angles to each other
