Voting in Person

Your local Electoral Registration Office will send you a poll card just before an election. This will tell you where and when to vote.

However you can still vote, if you’ve lost your card.

Polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm on the day of the election, and they are located in public buildings like schools or local halls.

When you get to the polling station

Give your name and address to the staff inside the polling station when you arrive. You do not have to take your poll card with you.

If you’re in Northern Ireland you’ll need to show photo ID (e.g. your passport, driving licence or Electoral Identity Card).

You’ll be given a sheet containing a list of the people or options you can vote for known as a ballot paper and you’ll then be invited to place a cross next to your choice or choices.
