There are strong ties amongst the Central American countries in regards to shared history, culture, and especially language with the majority of citizens in Central America speaking Spanish. Former Spanish colonies these areas have faced similar transitions into statehood and have at many times struggled through civil war to create or maintain their national identities. The countries of Central America share certain economic practices including the growing of certain crops and also the manufacturing of goods to be sold in the United States and elsewhere. But generally the connections between the Central American countries are based on shared language, history, and culture.
