Could you guys help me and explain them please.

Directions: Define a variable and write an inequality to model each situation. You must show all work to receive full credit. (1 point for defining the variable, 1 point for a correct inequality)
Example:
A truck can tow at most 12,000 lbs.
Let t represent the amount that the truck can tow.
t ≤ 12,000

8. The restaurant can seat at most 172 people.

9. A person must be at least 35 years old to be elected president.

10. A law clerk earned more than $20,000 since being hired.

11. A local pizzeria offered a special. Two pizzas cost $14.99. A group of students spent less than $75. They purchased three pitchers of soda for $12.99. How many pizzas could the group purchase? (1 point for writing an inequality to represent this situation, 1 point for determining how many pizzas could be purchased)

Answer :

8. The restaurant can only seat 172 people, so the equation would be s ≤ 172 ( s = amount of seating). So, s has to be less than or equal to 172.
9. The person has to be at the least 35 years old, so the equation would be p ≥ 35 (p = person running for president). So the person would have to be equal to or older than 35.
10. Okay, so the person made any number greater than $20,000, so the equation is c > $20,000 ( c = law clerk) because it has to be bigger than $20,000.
11. So the equation for how much they spent is s < $75 ( s = students). But since they spent at least $12.99, the equation for pizzas purchased would be $12.99 < p < $75 (p = pizzas) because it would have to be between $12.99 and $75.
