The Guianas are a subdivision of South America, composed of the following countries and territories, Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname. The territories of the Guianas were colonized in century XVI by England, Holland, France, Portugal and Spain. English Guiana is the only South American country of English colonization and is located in the extreme north of South America. Its territory borders Brazil, Venezuela and Suriname, and is bathed by the Atlantic Ocean.
