The mass of a large car is 1000kg. If the car starts from rest and reaches a velocity of 24.6 meters per second with a constant acceleration in 2 minutes. What's the acceleration?

Answer :

AL2006

1 minute = 60 seconds

2 minutes =120 seconds

(24.6 meters/sec) / (120 sec) = 0.205 meter/sec² = about 0.021 of a 'G'.

The mass of the car is irrelevant, in order to go just this far.

If you want to go a little farther, you can calculate the average force on the car, since you do know its mass.

Force = (mass) x (acceleration) = (1,000 kg) x (0.205m/s²) = 205 newtons

That's about 46 pounds of force accelerating the car . . . not a very powerful engine for a car that weighs more than a ton.
