After the terrible damage caused by the two world wars in the first half of the 20th century, the main concern of the victor countries was to create an alliance to make sure that such conflicts never happen again. The United Nations already existed, created on June 1945, but the USSR was a member of this organization and it was no longer possible to deal with this country because of its aggressive policy towards its European neighbors.

Led by dictator Stalin, who wanted to expand his empire and develop communism in more countries, many leaders understood that a new alliance was needed to face this new threat.
