During the Second World War RADAR ( Radio Detecting and Ranging ) saw its first use in combat operations. Radar was a technology that allowed land bases to detect incoming aircraft. It is used to detect distant objects by receiving radio waves that are reflected from the object. The Battle of Britain was a combat when the RAF defended the United Kingdom against the German Luftwaffe ( from July to October 1940 ).
