Germanic settler tribes (Angels Saxons Jutes and Frisians) entered Britain in AD 449 onwards and displaced the orignal Celtic Speaking inhabitants If we can assume that the lexicon reflects the preoccupations of the language users, we would not be surprised that the original Anglo Saxons were origanally not a settled group. there was a settled group but they were not very sophisticated. Many of their words are still used today. the most comman are the she husband and almost all of the common wordes used in the English language. However about three fourths of all of our worda are latain in origin. so about one fourth of thier words are used today. Hope I helped.
