At the end of scene 5, the group finds courage while singing "O Hanukkah!"; though some are scared in the beginning, their courage grows as they continue singing. In a lot of movies, one of the protagonists rallies his comrades with a speech before a dangerous mission (can't think of any examples right now).
The characters' fortunes suddenly reverse when a thief comes and hears the iron lampshade crashing to the floor. This is dangerous because he might tell the Green Police (Gestapo) about the incident and get them killed.
As Act I ends, I'd be wondering if they'll get caught or not, and if so, if any get to survive until the war ends. I predict that they'll get caught (well i already read this before) and most of them will die.
